Summary
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Full policy
Academic dishonesty is prohibited by the University of Houston Academic Honesty Policy https://uh.edu/provost/students/student-policies/honesty/
More specifically, submitting materials that are directly copied from classmates (those currently in the course or those that have taken it previously) constitutes plagiarism, which is a violation of this policy. Neither ignorance nor carelessness is an acceptable defense in cases of plagiarism.
The sanctions for confirmed violations of this policy shall be commensurate with the nature of the offense and with the record of the student regarding any previous infractions. In particular, confirmed acts of academic dishonesty (including, but not limited to plagiarism) will result in the following sanctions:
- First instance: a grade of zero on the examination or assignment in question
- Second instance: a fail grade in the related HPEDSI course.
- Third instance: a fail grade in all the HPE DSI courses that the student is concurrently enrolled in, and the student will be placed on probation for one calendar year, beginning on the last day of the HPE DSI course in which the examination or assignment in question was given.
- Any new violation by a student on probation will result in a fail grade in all the HPE DSI courses that the student is concurrently enrolled in, and the student will be placed on suspension for a period of two calendar years, beginning on the last day of the HPE DSI course in which the examination or assignment in question was given. Students will not be permitted enrollment in HPE DSI courses while under the sanction of suspension.
Students who wish to appeal their sanctions may contact
